Hey Dave Have been frailing for about 2 years - and guitar for over 10. Nowadays it's frailing or slide guitar. Am starting to do open spots with my mate duggy K, we both take turns at singing which is coming along Roj

Billy ( Bilbo from Scotland ) New Banjo player and middling guitar player, I came to this site after hearing it mentioned on one of that guy Patricks videos on youtube. Traditional Scottish and Irish folk music is what I'd like to play, and of course all that Cripple Creek stuff that banjo players are obligated to be able to play. On a more contemporary note I enjoy the Hippy meanderings of so called folkies like Roy Harper, John Martyn, Nick Drake and the like. This is my first post on here so I guess I'll just hang around, read all the stuff you guys are discussing and chip in with my tuppence worth now and then, nice to be here, see you around.

Hi Bilbo Welcome to the forum - saw John Martyn live in Camden a couple of years back - he had a trumpet palyer so good that it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Just as well as the ones on my head have largely fallen out Roj

Fine Danny, glad to have found this little enclave, Scottish folk is alive and well, although sometimes its difficult to go to a folk pub and see an act which doesnt look as if its being performed by the cast of ' Braveheart '. Kilts and straggly hair and beards are almost the norm, I dont think the banjo is very common in Scottish folk music so I'm hoping that it will stir up a bit of interest should I ever learn to play the infernal object. Oh yeah and in the above post I forgot to pay due homage to the Incredible String Band.

Hey Bilbo
Good to hear Scottish folk is alive and kicking, good luck with introducing the banjo (and trousers, and razers)

Hi everyone, I'm Natalie.
I started learning the banjo a couple of months ago, mostly from Patrick's videos and books.
I learned to play guitar when I was a kid but hadn't really played for a few years. When I decided I wanted to start playing music again I thought I'd give the banjo a go. It's an instrument I'd always been interested in and I'm having a lot of fun with it so far.
I live in London but I'm originally from Newcastle and still get back up there fairly regularly. I'm pleased to see that there seems to be a regular Newcastle jam! Hopefully I'll get the chance to come along to one at some point.
