Hi all, I'm Mike, I've been playing clawhammer for just coming up to 2 yrs now here in North Wales. I'm self taught, apart from looking up bum dity and drop thumb on youtube but dropped the strum part in favor of another single note. I can't read music or tabs and don't play chords, so everything is by ear and melody based, seems to work for me . The hardest thing for me is getting the tune in my head ,once there, I can usually do something with it . Anyway, look forward to chatting with you lot, Mike.

Hi, I'm Mandy from Derby. I play fiddle at local sessions and for a local morris side. I'm a multi-instrumentalist but mainly concentrate on violin and guitar now. Also a real-ale fanatic and CAMRA member.

get on all, ive been listening to bluegrass since a youngun as a lot of us who used to watch american animated cartoons wacky races penelope pitstop etc have, i think thats where it stems from, well that and convoy, anyways last year i thought id see if i could pick banjo, so with a little help from mother dearest on my 37th i got an open back Ashbury 5 string and found a load of lessons on the interweb and started learning the old classics cripple creek, foggy mountain breakdown and the like which i still like to pay homage to BUT my real interest lies in making up my own stuff which is part of the reason i joined, for some honest feedback or input something which eludes people on american sites, so hoping i can get that here cheeeeers

Hi all. I'm Simon, a 32 year old singer and pianist from East Yorkshire. I've recently acquired a taste for folk music, and made the decision to buy a penny whistle and an Appalachian dulcimer, so since it seems I'm pretty well committed now I thought it might be a good idea to find some like-minded people online.

Hello, everyone! I am slightly cheating by registering here, because it says in the title "for the folkies based in the UK", and I am not, I've actually visited UK only ones briefly, staying for two weeks in a friend's place in Devon some years ago. But my music, the music I listen to and the one that I write or play, has very much to do with UK, being influenced immensely by the likes of Nick Drake, John Martyn, Pentangle and many others. I simply could not find an "international folkies forum" to register to. I hope you would still welcome me here and I promise I'll do my best not to offend anyone :-)
