Hello I'm Rob From near Stafford, I play mostly guitar, some 5 string claw-hammer, and two finger picking, I sing, mainly old time country , gospel, and some folk, I was pleased to discover this UK forum about 1/2 hour ago, is this relatively new ? because previously I had only found the Banjo Hangout, and acoustic guitar forums.. Hello, it seems that people hardly ever log on to this forum, I joined last night , and have posted replies to several comments , but had no response at all, which suprises me a lot. however , I will now leave it for a week or two, and if nobody answers then I'll forget it. Bye for now , yours disappointed, Rob

Hi Rob
Sorry no one's been about, we're quite a small community, I haven't been online much lately, real world stuff going on.
Welcome aboard mate, we really are quite friendly, I promise.
As for your other question we've been going about 2 1/2 years, albeit on a very small scale.

Hi Danny, I was getting a bit worried, especially when I noticed some the dates on the posts. Anyway now you have one more member, I hope we might get some discussions etc going. Cheers for now, Rob

As Pete / Ned said Rob both you and your mates are all very welcome, when I started this site I intended it to be a place where folks who likes music could meet other folks, so the more the merrier

hello again, thought it was about time for an update . Been having lessons from Keith Pearson - www.keithpearson.co.uk/ Recently I bought a really decent banjo from Andy Perkins it makes a real difference to my playing - i will make a sound clip and send a link when I get round to it. The band is going well we had a gig in the summer - a bit rushed but went OK. Converted my Dads study into a music room that is filling up fast with all sorts of instruments - i've become a bit of a magnet. Im thinking about buying Tabledit and wondered if anyone had any thoughts or alternatives? Also any ideas on how to get hold of a cigar box for guitar making? Tim

Hi Tim. Good to see you back, and taking over the house. Glad that the band is going well. Look forward to hearing you play, so get round to it soon. Often see cigar boxes at car boot sales, worth a try anyway. For the benefit of us thicko's - - What's Tabledit ? Cheers Mate Pete

I haven't logged on much lately, or posted much (at all!), but it's good to see this site's still on the go.
As far as updates go, Santa was kind enough to bring me a nice Deering Goodtime Special open back banjo from Eagle Music (See 'The Southern Queen' on their website).
I got it as a backup and alternative to my main banjo (Cedar Mountain Vintage), and because I wanted a banjo with a tone ring (I regret selling my Gold Tone BC-350 last year!).
This is a lovely instrument, with a bright, ringing tone, mellowed somewhat with the addition of a renaissance head and no-knot tailpiece.
I think guitar will go on the back burner this year as I try to push myself with clawhammer banjo and see where I end up!

Welcome back Tim & Scanbran
Tim, it's good to see a young fella like you keep going at it, and good luck with tabledit, I took a look once and couldn't make hide nor bloody hair of it.
Scabran, NEVER SELL AN INSTRUMENT! You will ALWAYS end up regretting it.
Having said that, I've kinda fancied a Deering Goodtime openback with a tone ring of some description for a while, I've just been focusing on the guitar lately, that and I'm a bit financially embarassed
As for my instrumental new years resolution, I'm gonna stick with the guitar, and I'm DETERMINED to ditch the damn plectrum for good, 11 years of plectrum addiction WILL END IN 2011!!!
