We went to see Seasick Steve play at the Electric Ballroom in Camden last night.
It was a charity event organised by The Streets Of London (a charity which supports the homeless).
Steve played tunes from his forthcoming album release and a selection of his classics. A mixture of acoustic and (mainly) full on rocking blues boogie.
Joining him on stage on bass and mandolin (and for one tune fretless banjo) was none other than John Paul Jones (of Led Zep fame)!!!
Top night!

I've often wondered if ol' Seasick Steve would be any good, and not just a novelty/gimmick act that would fade and disappear. It's good to know that's not the case - might try to see him if he's up in the frozen north anytime soon Last gig I went to was on Tuesday - Skirlie, a three-piece band at our folk club. A mixture of mandolin, guitar, cajon, bodhran and whistle, playing trad folk songs, sets of tunes and some covers - a good fun night.

Hi SB and DK! Seasick Steve is fab live - a great entertainer - seen him twice now, both times at Glastonbury - he was excellent on both occasions, though the two performances were not vastly different!

Yeah a real entertainer I'd love to see him play in an acoustic only context one day, more akin to some of his recordings. Seeing JPJ was a treat. I saw the mighty Pentangle twice in 2008, I was totally blown away the first time, but slightly let down the second time - at the Green Man festival - the set (including the between song banter) was identical! It was raining too One of the gigs which made the biggest impression me as a kid was seeing Jake Thackray at the Guernsey folk festival some time around 1990. Magical! Off to Towersey festy with the family in August, can't wait!
