Manufacturer & Model *: Banjo Grafton "Gem" 5 string open back
Where Purchased: Andy Banjo
Year Purchased: 2010
Sound *: A good rounded tone with good volume and no zzzzzzing
Sound Rating *: 7
Setup *: As usual with Andy he has set it up well and thus the instrument is easy and smooth to play . It is perfect as it comes out of the box, just raise the bridge and tune it. No hassle when you buy from AB
Setup Rating *: 10
Appearance *: Very well made , a high shine finish to all the woodwork . Gives you that lovely feel of something that is built to last but is graceful and a joy to hold . Not at all utilitarian although appearance Andy admits is a bit plain, no decoration or frippery but that is the target it aims at.
Appearance Rating *: 7
Reliability *: No problems at all
Reliability Rating *: 10
Components *: 11" mahogany rim with 24 brackets
Rolled brass tone ring
22 fret truss-rodded neck with edge binding and hand-dressed fretting
Twin co-ordinator rods & 2-point neck attachment for extra stability
High grade die-cast sealed-unit guitar-style tuners and a geared 5th string peg which all work very smoothly
Solid armrest and good quality "No-Knot" tailpiece
Renaissance or Fibreskyn head
Top grade strings & bridge
Components Rating *: 8
Pre-sale Customer Service: Great. Just the sort of service you need when starting out and need expert guidance . Very glad I dealt there.
Pre-sale Customer Service Rating: 10
Post-sale Customer Service: None needed.
Post-sale Customer Service Rating: 10
Any Other Information: This has to be one to put at the top of the buy list for someone starting out and wanting their first instrument . You know the instrument will be dead right so any extraneous noises are not coming from that source, saves those thoughts.
