Manufacturer & Model *: Rally Calfornian 5 string Banjo resonator
Where Purchased: Andy Banjo
Year Purchased: 2007
Sound *: This was my first banjo and I took the advice of Andy at Andy Banjo as to what to buy. I was very supprised at the brightness and volume of the sound - it was frankly better than some instruments I had looked at locally that were double the price
Sound Rating *: 7
Setup *: The banjo was set up to a very high standard and was very easy to play. The fret board and frets having been hand dressed at Andy Banjo's works in Kent. It was as smooth as silk.
Setup Rating *: 9
Appearance *: The banjo itself is finished in a satin finish without any staining and as a result looks rather plain. The neck has flower type mother of pearl type markers in a common pattern.
Appearance Rating *: 6
Reliability *: During the time I had the instrument I had no problems with it - nor has its present owner who uses it every day. Its ability to stay in tune is excellent.
Reliability Rating *: 8
Components *: The instrument has an 11" laminated 1/2" maple rim with 2 adjusting rods, rolled brass tone ring, chrome plated metal work and 18 brackets. It is fitted with a top sprayed Remo head , a cast Kerschner style tail piece. The truss rodded neck is slim made of maple with a rosewood finger board the resonator is maple. All the componets are made to a high standard
Components Rating *: 8
Pre-sale Customer Service: The advice given was excellent.
Pre-sale Customer Service Rating: 8
Post-sale Customer Service: As I had no problems I could not test this area.
Post-sale Customer Service Rating: 10
Any Other Information: The resonator on this instrument can be easily removed and as a result it can be converted to an open backed arrangement. To be honest I regret having sold this banjo but as it is still in my village and I can get my hands on it without too much bother which is some compensation. It should be noted that the Ozark 2109G Calfornian is the same instrument and the banjo can be purchased in both open back and resonator models
