Manufacturer & Model: Freshman FA1GAM Guitar
Where Purchased: Haverfordwest Withybush Indoor Market music store
Year Purchased: 2010
Sound: Sound is somewhat of an individual thing however I was impressed with, as it is a small bodied instrument, the overall dimensions of the sound being played both softly and loud. Highs and lows are very well defined and have a similar response. It is fitted with a Adagio acoustic medium strings as standard.
Sound Rating: 8
Setup: All Freshman guitars are set up in their Scottish location and have a QC ticket attached showing the action distance on the 1st and 12th frets on initial and final inspection. As a result for a relatively inexpensive guitar the action is about as good as you will get. I do get an occasional buzzes on the bass strings when finger picking hard and fast but believe this has more to do with my fretting than the setup
Setup Rating: 9
Appearance: Very pretty guitar with figured maple back and sides and a close grained spruce top in a natural finish. The neck I think is some form of maple with a rosewood finger board frets are well fitted and finished on the edge to an acceptable standard - no sharp bits - the bridge is rosewood. On very close inspection the finger board , particularly at the bottom end could have been dressed better as could the fitting of the neck to the body of the instrument this does not affect playability in any way
Appearance Rating: 7
Reliability: I have had no problems with this instrument since getting it some 6 months ago
Reliability Rating: 9
Components: Tuners are gold plated enclosed type and seem to be of good quality and hold tune well. The woods from which the instrument is made are to an acceptable standard.
Components Rating: 7
Any Other Information: Would I buy another one sure I would its an ideal instrument for taking to the local pub as it has a small body and a full sound and did not cost the earth.
