Just thought I'd say hello as I'm new here.
I've been playing guitar for many years (Around 30, Not that you'd know from my playing), got myself a GDAE tuned Tenor Banjo just before Easter last year and a mandolin last week!
I'm lucky enough to have a Folk Club at work which meets one lunchtime a month and I've organized another, more beginner based, session (Again at work, one lunchtime a month).

Do you guys mean you take your banjo to your job and frail around there? Never thought of this. Maybe I should. I envy you

I work at a university (No prizes for guessing which one based on my location. Let's just say it's not 'closed') and we have a recital room which we use for the Folk Club Sessions. I do sometimes close my office door and have a little noodle before work or at lunchtime though. Easier with the mando than the banjo as I'm less likely to disturb others.

Hi Wolfgang
Yes i take an instrument to work and play it during my lunch hour - summer is great when i can sit out in the sunny car park and play. I guess my colleagues think im a bit weird but im sure they thought that before i played the banjo at work ;D
How are you getting on with the banjo build? Have just got a Roger Smirnoff book on banjo building - can't decide which route to take - get a kit or start from a lump of wood.
Cheers

A kit might be a way to start, get the setup and assembly skills going first, then maybe use a lump of wood for a 2nd or 3rd banjo. www.savethebanjos.com has a review of one of ther more common kits that should be worth a read.
