I'm looking to get my girlfriend a fiddle as she used to play and really enjoy the violin quite well she tells me back when she was at school. Since she's into folky stuff these days (because of me ) I thought it might be a nice to potentially play together. I know nothing about this instrument but thinking of some sort of starter kit or something, anyone have a direction to point me in? Wes

Some catalogues (Littlewoods, Freemans, that type) do violin starter kits in their autumn winter catalogues (the ones that cover christmas basically) Might be worth checking their websites, or theirs hobgoblin or eagle music.
Goodluck, let us know how it goes

Hi Reels
I bought a starter kit for my dad - essentially i found a music shop that specialised in instruments for kids taking music lessons at school - to that end i asked a secondary school teacher and was recommended a place.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm normally a fan of second hand for instruments as for the money you can usually get higher quality sound and playability but just give someone else the pleasure of putting some scratches etc on it. Feel a bit too ignorant about these to do that though. I shall post my findings! Wes

Join PRELOVED for £5.00 per year lots of reasonable fiddles on there and one from a teacher nr Nottingham for £69.00 with a new set of £35.00 strings cannot be bad. Brian Thinking about it this could be a bit late for last Christmas but hey the next one is not too far away - but seriously try PRELOVED as a better bet than Ebay and spread the word
