Got excited by some new discoveries in the last couple of days. Andy put me on to The Be Good Tanyas (at least I think that was the band he mentioned), plus I stumbled across Crooked Still and Indigo Moss the other day. Top tunes in my book. Seek them out.
Always interested in something new. ;D

Oh boy - bands! Let's see... Firstly, as we're banjo players you MUST check out Bela Fleck, probably the best banjo player there is. You can get loads of his sets for free from the Internet Archive (along with hundreds of othere bands). It's all legit. The've also got clips on YouTube. Others? Although there's no banjo on it, check out I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight by Richard and Linda Thompson. It's a classic I know, but non-folkies have never heard of it along with a few who are. It's good old English folk. Now, you may know this one, but... Sufjan Stephens is AMAZING! I saw his Festival Hall gig last year. Even took my daughter who was a few months old at the time. You must check him out (and buy (Come On Feel the) Illinoise). Here's a link for his wonderful Casmir Pulaski Day. Also search for John Wayne Gacey Jr. www.youtube.com/watch?v=17SqVt1GCa8There are other versions on YouTube, but in this clip he plays the banjo! All his stuff is superb. For effortless folk/Americana it has to be Bonnie Prince Billy (aka Will Oldham) and Lambchop (aka Kurt Wagner with various friends). Finally, as this list could go on forever, there's the Willard Grant Conspiracy. Then there's Jim White, Charlie Parr, Alison Krauss... I'm spoiling you now, and I coming over all emotional! Listen, and then tell me I'm wrong... *ENJOY*

Hayseed Dixie are brilliant, especially if you like Rock music as well as country / folk / bluegrass

I agree - seen them many times. Also the late father of two of the band is none other than Donald Wesley Reno!
Yes - 'the' Don Reno.

Oh my goodness - how could I forget to mention Seth Lakeman! You MUST purchase Kitty Jay and The Freedom Fields.
The White Hare is amazing and Blood Upon Copper. They should be two immediate listens.

whilst browsing some of this on youtube i saw a video of seth lakeman at cambridge folk festival, fantastic stuff.....didnt even know this festival existed!
BUT the really funny thing about an hour later i had a look on tvguide.co.uk to see what time the footie kicks off and i saw that on BBC4 at 8.30 they have coverage of the Cambrige Folk Festival ! ricky skaggs, alison moorer, nanci griggith, amongst others.
now thats a coincidence!

Cambridge has been going for years and years - it's the biggest folk festival in the country. However, you should really get to the Trowbridge Pump Festival. Here's just a few of the 2007 performers:
LEVELLERS (Thurs) • JOE BROWN (Sun) • SETH LAKEMAN (Thurs) • KATE RUSBY (Sun) • THE BE GOOD TANYAS (Sat) • HOTHOUSE FLOWERS (Sat) • THE MEN THEY COULDN'T HANG (Sun) • ERIC BIBB (Sat) • BELLOWHEAD (Sun) • MARTIN CARTHY & DAVE SWARBRICK (Thurs) • SHARON SHANNON (Fri) •

I'm not advocating copying material here, but...
if there are any albums you want (and that I've got) let me know and I'll stick a copy in the post. If you like them and you feel guilty then purchase a shop copy (and buy the artist another swimming pool)! Or if you would prefer I could put together a mix CD. Either way just let me know.
By the way, I think we should be posting our own sound files soon to see whey we've got to. I'm seeing a big improvement but always make to many mistakes when it comes to laying down anything on the 4 track!

Oh.. as a teacher to another teacher...
I do realise 'to' should be 'too'. Hate to see a spelling error in a work book - particularly mine!

I'm really gonna have to sign up as a regular user, just to see what you guys can do (I've got all sorts of options as the administrator, it's quite scary actually)
