Let me precede the following post by sayng that I am a very happy, multiple time customer of the Banjo Works (Andy Banjo). I am in no way having a go at Andy, he has a living to make afterall but I nearly choked whilst drinking my coffee and browsing the web earlier ....
Any regular visitor to Andy Perkins website will no doubt have seen the news that sadly his line of Gold Tone banjos are set to rise in price, aparently because of the weak pound against the dollar (and an increase from Gold Tone earlier in the year).
Today I visited the website and saw that the prices had indeed been increased, three banjos that had been on my "realistic" wish list have now had to be removed from it, I just can't justify that kind of price.
The WL250, BC 350, OT800 have all increased by around £110>£125.
Oh well, I guess I will be waiting for the turn around in the economy when hopefully prices will reduce somewhat or saving a bit more and opting for a nice vintage machine or importing something like a Chuck Lee at the tail end of next year.

I hope they dont 'forget' to drop the prices again like the oil companies ...... Fingers crossed Andrew, fingers crossed. .... The Chuck Lee machines are great arent they? I had an immediate attraction to Chuck's banjos when I first saw them a couple of years ago. I have family about three hours from his workshop in Texas so hopefully I can save some cash up and head over for a visit sometime and bring one back with me

I was a bit disappointed at the price hike as well, but that's life. And life's a hoop on a stick until I think of a way to make dough.
Oh, and I stumbled across Griffin Banjos. Droooooooollll! How I'll ever afford one is anybody's guess...

Yeah you struck lucky there mate. And deservedly so, for what it's worth. In truth I can't justify a new hoop at my level of ability, but it makes me want to learn more quickly and make more time for the banjo.
The crunch sort of grounds people and makes them more careful and reliant on what they have already. There's something in that, I reckon.

I'm not sure about deservedly so, but I DEFFINATELY struck lucky. It felt like a lottery win, it really did. Roll on the retreat and mine and the Bart Reiters introduction to each other, (Don't worry, I'll pass her around, for a bit.)

What's happening basically is that Patrick and DOD have sent it to Fr Keith, who has very kindly agreed to pay the import duty on it. He'll set right anything that gets knocked loose in shipping and then we'll all break it in in Sheffield.
The wait is prooving to be hell.

GREAT NEWS
I just had an email from Steve Noon over at Eagle Music Shop, they're gonna be on the Take It Away scheme this year at some point.
I feel a Tenor guitar and a Faith Mercury coming on now
