Interesting side topic here, any southpaws who play right handed? Gary Moore and Mark Knopfler both do on guitar, and I've seen 1 vid of Elizabeth Cotton doing it on banjo on you tube

I'm right handed... right footed...and left eyed !

I think its true that anything you have two of you have a 'natural' preferred one to use.

I found out the 'eye' thing from an archery book which tells you how to determine which of your eyes is the most dominant.

Pick a spot in the middle distance (light switch across the room,etc). With both eyes OPEN (no cheating) with one finger at arms length place it over the object.
Close one eye. If the finger is covering the object, the eye you have open is the dominant one.
If your finger has now moved to one side of the object the eye that is shut is the eye that is dominant.
In archery you look through the sight with your dominant eye. This was a disappointment for me because it meant that I have to pull the string back with my left hand not the right as I wanted.

Oh well, took up banjo instead...safer!

I'm a lefty and started learning guitar when I was about about 11. I was taught to play right handed and found it ok but I always felt like I would have progressed faster if I had played left handed.

I hadn't played guitar for a few years and decided to pick up the banjo recently. I took a bit of a chance and got a left handed banjo. It felt a little weird to begin with but now it feels much more natural and I find it much easier to keep a steady strumming rhythm going with my left hand.

Snap! My optician recently diagnosed what i'd known all along - i'm 'left-eyed' too!.... and right handed in all other respects.... except.....ironing and eating with a knife and fork....weird eh?!

I use a knife and fork left handed. Weird thing is my south paw sister uses 'em right handed. Whod'a thunk it?
