Hello folks, This really is a bit of wild speculation here, but wouldn't it be great if the 'S3' banjo that Patrick hinted at was a UK or European collaboration Hmmmm.... I must point out that my speculations are usually c**p.

That's a great idea Andy.
I'm fairly certain Patrick lurks here from time to time too, so you never know who's reading.........
Rekon Andy Perkins is up to / up for the job?

I've got this theory that it will be some sort of resophonic banjo and would even stick a fiver on it if I was a betting man.
I know nothing about instruments other than my hoop n stick, but reckon it would sound odd.

Okay, so we all know the S3 is a modern update on the ladies banjos of the 1890's with a 10" pot, 24" scale and rosewood tone ring.
Anybody want to guess about the details of the soon to be unveiled Somerset S4?

A somerset Ukelelelele. If not the S4 then maybe S5? S6...? Nostradamus step aside.. Andrew

Believe me, you have never met an instrument which needs a resonator less than the bagpipes. Ask the ladies in Crisfield Post Office. Their ears are probably still ringing.
My money would be on a nice solid open backed tenor banjo.

Wow. Nobody even got close.
We'll be announcing more details in the next few days, but here are the general specs for the S-4 prototype being built right now:
POT- Deep 12" 3-ply maple pot with a brass tone ring and dual coordinator rods.
NECK- One-piece maple neck with rosewood fretboard.
The S-4 neck is "semi-fretless" - the first four frets are flush with the fingerboard with standard frets starting at the fifth fret.
I think this one is going to be pretty cool.
