Hi, I was wondering how many of you are using The Banjo Players Songbook by Tim Jumper to learn new tunes. I find it quite a remarkable book in that many of the tunes I actually know already but because titles and words are different it is not until I try playing them that a tune I actually know jumps out. My latest discovery was "paddy west" being "tramps and hawkers".I am pretty sure "johnny Todd" is theme to Z cars and quite a number are strangely Football songs /chants including one for "can you hear the *Rangers sing No Oh No Oh" A lot of the "american " tunes having Irish or UK equivalents that I am more familiar with Cheers * Insert team of your choice excluding Aberdeen ;D

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep an eye out for it. Is it in standard notation or tab or both?

Book is in tab, with chords above tab and lyrics no CD ,but there are a lot of tunes most people will recognise and others to discover www.angiesbanjo.com/AA-new-books/Banjo-Players-Songbook.htm will link to a list of all songs , I think book sells for around £17 -19 from UK sites like eaglemusic etc. Good thing is once you get basic tune down you can adapt, my version of Jesse James now quite different in parts, originally accidental changes but now "my" way to play the tune. vast majority of tunes in G but there are other other tunings . Again most tunes are Clawhammer/frailing but there are some tunes with other styles. If it had included Clawhammer/frailing versions of "courting in the Kitchen" and "Glendale Train (somebody robbed the)" it would be almost perfect cheers

different and unrecognisable from originals eh? that would mean ...rather than playing some one elses music , you have actually written your own tunes!!! cool !!! you must be good if you already write your own music
