Just to remind folks that the June 2008 edition of Worlds of Trad Internet radio is uploaded, will be on-line until Wednesday July 9th, and features a minimum of three hours of the very best in traditional folk, ethnic, world, roots, blues, old time country and early jazz; in fact traditional music from absolutely everywhere.
This month, Phil Tanner and Jim Swain remind us it's summer; Packie Byrne reminds us of the ballad of the creel and the old wife; Kieron Means and Sara Grey remind us that there's false young men about; and Honeyboy Edwards and a whole bunch of good guys from the Mississippi Delta remind us that Honeyboy's 93rd birthday is about to come up.
We've the usual host of ethnic sounds. This month's delights include a piece on the Shakuhachi (Japanese flute) by Elizabeth Reian Bennett, a praise song on the kora by Toumani Diabate, and a tune on the Greek long necked lute.
Bessie Smith leads off a bunch of songs from the great American depression; Séamus Ennis and Willie Clancy tear into two of the most formidable jigs in Ireland; The Memphis Jug Band, Louis Armstrong's Hot Five, and Bob Skyles and his Skyrockets dish up some culinary delights; there's several tracks from the new Bobby Casey CD, and Marilyn Middleton Pollock shares the honours with the Lake Records All Star Jazz Band.
All that and much, much more, as they say.
The complete playlist is at www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=111979&messages=1 and at blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog&pop=1&ping=1
You can listen to the programme by visiting www.live365.com/stations/oneworldmusic , and clicking on the yellow speaker button. If you haven't listened before you'll need to follow the onscreen instructions to download the station player Then wait a moment for the ads to clear, press the green PLAY button and the station will be on the air.
Worlds of Trad programmes are on a 24/7 continuous loop. So you can pick the show up at any time and hear the programme right through. The music is great, listening is free and I'm always glad to receive requests.
In short Worlds of Trad is the coolest station on the Internet. In these baking hot days of high summer, what better way to relax than to turn on, tune in and chill out (as Timothy Leary probably never said).
