Hi! Is anyone out there with BT for their Broadband? I have just upgraded to their Option 2, in the hopes of getting faster download speeds. I thought, perhaps mistakenly (?) that I would be able to view Patrick's videos without them keep stopping and starting all the way through if I had proper broadband instead of dial-up. I've had it for a week almost and web pages are taking ages to load, I can't watch any YouTube videos because they seem to be even worse at stopping every few seconds, and I AM GETTING REALLY HACKED OFF! (Note: I didn't SWEAR there!). I know there is a settling down period of 10 days, but I thought I might at least get an hour or two at a decent speed now and then?! Any thoughts on this - hints and tips - anything I can do with the settings on my pc? I have done speed tests on BT's website and on an independant site, and am getting really slow readings. GGGGRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Hi Sooze I am not with bt, my provider is AOL, however when I access youtube with the AOL homepage running the videos are very stop start, I was recommended to downloaded mozilla firefox (free). So I now get the connection using AOL, them close down its memory sapping front end (leaving the connection open) then open firefox and run the videos from there, they all run with no problem. If you can be bothered you can also convert them and store them on your hard drive I use tech crunch to do this (free download) Hope this helps. Colin

Hi Colin - I will have a look at getting Mozilla Firefox, then, and give it a try - that sounds like good advice! (I'm not too bothered about having the vids stored on my hard drive, but I shall certainly bear Tech Crunch in mind if I do decide I want to do that.) Thanks for the tip - it might just save my sanity! :-)

1st, well done on not swearing, under the circumstances that's good enough for some karma :-)
2nd, Delete all your tempary internet files
3rd, run an adware killer like Ad-Aware Se (it's free and pretty good)
4th, make sure you have a working firewall
5th, Phone up BT and shout at them.
Also Colin's right, Firefox is pretty good.
As for downloading stuff quickly I use Flashget (also free) Just have it download Patricks things from archive.org instead of watching 'em on youtube. You can always delete 'em afterwoulds.

Hey Danny! Thanx for the Karma! I gave some to Colin for his suggestion so reckon I shall do the same for you, too! I have actually done all that you suggested, including raving at BT several times! They just say I have to be patient and wait the 10 days.
Also, sad to say, things are no different using Firefox. The vids still 'hang up' when I use that - it is SO frustrating. I'll have a go at getting Flashget and see how I get on with that. Thanks guys!

When I get frustrated with youtube vids doing that I start the vid, let it run for a second or two only, then pause it. Even though it stops playing it keeps downloading slowly. Go and have a cup of coffee, when you get back it has buffered enough to stop jerking around.

Oh yes, I've discovered that, too, Andrew! but I had hoped that upgrading to broadband might have solved the 'stuttery' video' thing! Might as well have stayed with my old BT package for all the benefit I am getting from the new one at the moment! Sometimes I hate technology!

I BT doesn't work out, try www.TalkTalk.co.ukIt'll mean changing to their phone service, but you pay for the phone and get the broadband for free. You can keep your phone number I believe. They were REALLY bad at first, thankfully they went cap in hand to AOL and now they are running the broadband side of things it works like clockwork.
