Hi Folks,
The May 2008 edition of Worlds of Trad Internet radio is now uploaded, will be on-line until Wednesday June 11th, and features three hours of the very best in traditional folk, ethnic, world, roots, blues, old time country and early jazz; in fact traditional music from absolutely everywhere.
I’m a day late uploading the programme this month, due to a bad attack of hay fever and a paving slab which I managed to trip over. Never mind, if I’m not in sparkling form, the programme certainly is.
This month we’ve got several tracks from recent Cds by Sara Grey, Kieron Means and the Downtrodden String Band. And these splendid country pickers are further enhanced by Dwight Diller and the Dixon Brothers. We’ve also got a nostalgic look at a bygone London Irish music scene of the 1950s, together with some Irish songs of emigration and exile; there’s a mountain signal from Albania and a spring signal from Roumania; Kid Ory and Ken Colyer tell us they miss New Orleans; Robert Cinnamond, Doc Watson, Bill Monroe and Carl T. Sprague bring us three different takes on the ballad of the jilted sailor; Big Mama Thornton and Katie Webster turn in a couple of blistering blues performances; there‘s some searing gospel from the Staple Singers and the Heavenly Gospel Singers; and there’s a hymn of praise to the founding father of Qwaali from the daddy of all Qwaali singers; Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
There is much, much more and the whole playlist is below and at http://profilemyspacecom/indexcfm?fuseaction=userviewprofile&friendID=160651486 . It can also be seen at www.mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=111263&messages=1
To listen to the programme, go to www.live365.com/stations/oneworldmusic , and click on the yellow speaker button If you haven’t listened before you’ll need to follow the onscreen instructions to download the station player Then wait a moment for the ads to clear, press the green PLAY button and the station will be on the air.
The programme is a minimum of 3 hours long and it’s on a 24/7 continuous loop, so you can pick it up at any time and hear the whole show right through. What’s more, the music is great, listening is free and I'm always glad to receive requests.
Happy listening, and all that stuff,
Fred McCormick
