Manufacturer & Model *: Vega V445 Guitar
Where Purchased: Now closed shop in Sutton Coldfield West Mids
Year Purchased: 1978
Sound *: This was my first acoustic guitar and was purchased second hand for £60.00. I chose this particular guitar as quite frankly for the pure beauty of sound it blew every other instrument in the shop out of the window. It is now even better, improving with age as the woods become more mature. I still have not found an instrument which produces a sound which to my ears surpasses it at what ever price.
Sound Rating *: 9
Setup *: When I first got the instrument it was not the easiest of guitars to play. Following a move however the instrument suffered some damage which required some serious repair work. This was undertaken by a guitar shop in Burton on Trent in Staffs since which it a joy to play. The rating below reflects both its previous and current playability.
Setup Rating *: 6
Appearance *: Dreadnought size body (as originated by the CF Martin Organisation in the 1930's) with solid German spruce top in shaded finish. Solid African mahogany back and sides. South American mahogany neck. East Indian rosewood bridge and finger board. Kolb enclosed tuning machines with chrome plated metal buttons. The frets are made of nickle/silver; the position markers are mother-of-pearl. It is finished with multiple thin coats of fine polished lacquer. The instrument was initially fitted with Martin M-150 medium gauge bronze strings. Nothing fancy to look just a well made instrument.
Appearance Rating *: 7
Reliability *: With the exception of the damage caused during the move it has been reliable. Its ability to say in tune with the Kolb machine heads is exceptional.
Reliability Rating *: 8
Components *: All components and the woods used are of exceptional quality as is the construction. In particular the fretS are properly finished and the fret board well dressed.
Components Rating *: 9

Any Other Information: These guitars were manufactured in the Netherlands and were designed by the CF Martin Organisation. There were 6 instruments in the line 5 - 6 string and 1 - 12 string. They all showed Martin's attention to detail and finish all benefiting from Martins bracing pattern: thin , light braces properly contoured in quarter-sawn German spruce. The woods used in their construction were hand selected and sourced from all over the world.
They were imported into this country by Boosey & Hawkes their main selling point being "The famous Vega name-with famous Martin features."
Would I have another one-no contest yes I would in particular the 12 string V12-445 version - if I could find one.
