I am more of a tenor fumbler.... a recent starter at the tenor banjo, though I also play mandolin and octave mandola. I play tenor using a plastic thumb pick and two steel finger picks. I like the way that I can move between tenor, mandolin & mandola and, despite different things being easier on different instruments, techniques and grips that are used are transferable if not entirely interchangeable. I tend to play melody on Mando and rolled chords on the tenor, though slowly my tenor playing is becoming more melodic, I really need to find a way forward with my tenor playing.
