Hi. My name is Fernando. I was born in Spain but live in England. Now, my work has taken me to Moscow. I got interested in banjos while through America riding a motorcycle . I wanted to ride the 'Blues highway' but Hurricane Katrina spoiled the party (and many good people's lives) so I went up the Appalachia and came across many a banjo. Back home I bought my first from andybanjo and found Patrick and family. Banjo's, so far, play me rather the other way round. Very much thanks to Patrick, his dad and a few fellow banjo pickers I got started on something I never believed I could do: playing an instrument and making music. Maybe that is too grandiose a description of what I can do, but I'll get there. 'Boil them cabbage down' is a gigantic step and achievement for a goofy guy like me! I switched to tenor now and I will be the happiest if one day I can play accompanying a jazz band. That said, I love folk Music, British American and Spanish. My home's in Kent, not far from Tunbridge Wells, on a beautiful spot I so much miss when I'm away. If you are passing by with a banjo drop me a line, my casa es su casa. DD

Hi I'm Rob
Been frailing banjo for three years or so but mainly just from tab. Then someone sent me a copy of Patrick Costello's 'The How and Tao of Old Time banjo' and I haven't looked back!
I live in Nottingham and I'm a Politics research student at Trent University.
Nice to meet you all

My names Mark, I am 36 with the obligatory wife, 2 kids, 2 cats, 2 fish and a mortgage. I live in Berkshire but was born in Dorset and raised in the West Mids.
I am learning frailing banjo but also play around on uke, guitar and harmonica.
I have recently lost my internet connection for 3 months due to an admin **** up at work (they supply my internet connection) so have a lot of catching up to do!

Welcome back Mark, I wondered where you'd gone too. Thanks Danny it's been a grind without any internet access, you don't realise how much you take it for granted! It's still not back to normal though, I still can't access hotmail, youtube, itunes, vids on google or whatever. I am gonna take he plunge next month and get my own internet connection sorted out (gonna have to dig out the PC too, its still packed in a box since I moved house 6 months ago!)

HI to all...
Just stumbled across this board and decided to join in !
My main instrument is guitar though I play a little banjo as well. Been playing guitar for quite some time and have dabbled in a number of styles from classical, blues, rags through to folk and some more contemporary stuff. My main influence on playing of late has been the great Martin Simpson. I do a lot of stuff in his style and tunings. This all started a few years ago when, after a long period of absence from playing steel string acoustic I decided to get stuck in again. The first thing I did was to pop out and get myself a decent guitar. I came back to the house with a Collings 002H which I still have. Been on a couple of Martin's workshops and really worked at my playing over the last few years. I've added a couple more guitars to the collection, both Collings. A 0002H and a 0001ASB. These guitars really blow me away, simply amazing instruments. I've ordered a guitar from Stefan Sobell which is probably about a year away now, so one of the Collings may have to go to make room. We'll see.
I mostly play for my own amusement but occasionally get out and do ma thang at a folk club.
Cheers,
Ian

Welcome aboard Ian (we seem to have a lot of Ians now)
I've heard good things about Collings, way outta my price range tho. I have just got a Faith Saturn, which is just a superb guitar, especially for what I paid.

Thats a fact Danny, What i liked most was that i was talking to Steve on the phone,i asked about buying a new Gibson,he replied "Piers if i never ever meet you,pls promise me you wont buy a Gibson".
He really has put me back on this planet regarding Gibson, so my next purchase will be a Deering, either a John Hartford or a GDL. And just maybe i will sell my Gibson. (Thats a total lie) my Gibson is mine.
Bye for now Keep on picking.
Cheers Piers.
