Mark - don't forget Shawshank, although it wasn't very true to the novella. yup great film, but I am a big fan of morgan freeman anyway

Here are a couple of absolute crackers:
Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell (Susanna Clarke)
The Incredible Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (Michael Chabon)

Just finished the Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb. Best read I've had in years without exception.

This is proving to be a very lively topic! Sadly, although I do love to read, I haven't read a book for ages -there's always something else needs doing and I never seem to get the time! But even when I did used to read a lot, no matter how good the book was, I always fell asleep after a few paragraphs! (Obviously reading is a very relaxing past-time for me, when I can get the chance!)

Blimey...I just popped out for a minute and theres hundreds of posts to catch up on! Reading....Hmmm. Nope, I'm a picture man really... a thousand words each or more. Not that I'm a complete plebe, its just that all the things that I'm interested in seem to be best relayed visually. The other thing is that it takes me several goes or one very thorough go at a book and I lose interest too quickly. Oh well..

films are never as good as the books though, i thought last king of scotland was a real letdown after reading the book first, and they left a lot of content out of the lord of the rings trilogy too

Of Mice and Men was very good. I watched 'The Shawshank Redemption' today, very good indeed, gonna have to look out for the book. The Green Mile (also by Stephen King) is superb too, book or film.

I know OM&M almost by heart. Still love it. Steinbeck was experimenting with a play/novel hybrid with that one. Useless factoid for ya.
